Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to see what it was like to ride in a hot air balloon. I can only imagine how thrilling it would be to float up, up and away, defying gravity as you peacefully soar through the sky with a bird’s-eye view of the scenery. I can’t wait to check this one off my bucket list! And actually, I won’t have to because this weekend, October 17th -19th, I will be at the 41st Annual Carolina BalloonFest at the Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina!
Even if riding in a balloon isn’t on your to-do list, visiting the Carolina BalloonFest should be! There are so many other things to do and see at this spectacular event. Over 50 beautiful balloons in all shapes and sizes will amaze you as they decorate the sky. There will be sanctioned hot air balloon competitions, a spectacular Hot Air Balloon Mass Ascension, and the extraordinary Balloon Glow, which happens at 6:30 pm on Saturday. This is when the balloons are inflated by their burners, making them appear like giant, colorful light bulbs. It’s really a breathtaking sight to see!
The festival features a great lineup of live entertainment and a variety of delicious foods to choose from along with wines and beers produced right here in North Carolina. There’s also a Kids Zone with inflatables, a climbing wall and entertainment. And don’t miss The BalloonFest Marketplace and Artisan Village, where you can pick up some souvenirs and other gifts. I would advise you to get there early and plan to stay late. There are cool things to do and see all day. Check the schedule of events.
An added bonus to this event is that it benefits the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Statesville, a wonderful cause that celebrates those who have fought cancer, and remembers those lost to cancer.
Come visit the 41st Annual Carolina BalloonFest. It’s sure to be a very “uplifting” experience!
